About us

Welcome and thankyou for taking the time to find out more information about the development of this project and about the collaborating team.

This learning centre was created by two educators, Yvonne Toft and Prue Howard, who are passionate about active learning pedagogy.  More than that they are passionate about informing change so that all engineering system designs will reflect principles centred on integrating the very best that people can offer as an integral component of the system.  We have found that engineering educators realise the importance of including these principles in their curriculum but at present many do not have the knowledge or skills to do so, that’s where these learning packages kick in.  You can first complete the activities yourself and then use them with your students.  We look forward to a day when we see a reduction in design-induced end-operator error; a day when we will see sustainable design.

This site was developed with kind assistance, by way of funding, from the Australian OHS Trust and by way of technical assistance, from Central Queensland University.  We also would like to thank many of our colleagues at Central Queensland University for their support and inspiration.  In particular: David Jorgensen, Darren Joubert, Scot Aldred, Peter Reaburn, Patrick Keleher, Elizabeth Taylor and Errol Payne. We really appreciate your confidence in us. We would also like to acknowledge Tom March and his invaluable assistance via ‘Web and Flow’ (see useful links) in creating the learning resources.

Thank you for taking this journey with us.
